Birth and early life
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Lok Sabha MP Ajay Bhatt was born on 1 May 1961 in Ranikhet region of Almora district of Uttarakhand. His ancestral village is located in Dhankal, Dwarhat Tehsil. After the death of father Kamalapati Bhatt, when he was quite young, he took the responsibility of not only himself but also the whole family by going through the difficult paths of life. His two brothers also died untimely, increasing the burden of responsibilities. Despite difficult economic conditions, Ajay Bhatt did not lose courage.
Education and initial conflict
Ajay Bhatt gave his BA from Almora College (currently Uttarakhand Residential University). LLB received a five -year degree. While studying, he run the mess in the college to bear his own expenses, set up a tea shop and also worked to sell bindi-wokes and vegetables. They also used to sell goods in the famous mother Dunagiri Temple and Hedkhan Babaji Temple. This struggling life not only took him to self -reliance, but also introduced the ground truths of the society.
family life
In 1986, Ajay Bhatt married Pushpa Bhatt. Pushpa Bhatt is a former judge and currently advocates in Nainital High Court. Together, the two adopted the profession of advocacy and started serving the society through PILs. Ajay Bhatt has three daughters and a son. Through advocacy, he realized the responsibility towards the society and from here his inclination moved towards active social service.
Start of political life
Ajay Bhatt entered politics in 1985 with the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party. His organization capacity and hard work soon made him a member of the working committee of Uttar Pradesh unit. He then took the responsibility of coordinator in Ranikhet and Bachhiyasin tehsils and also became the organization minister of Almora district.
He is also a member of the BJP’s state executive since 1985. His role in the Uttarakhand state building movement was notable. He was a leading member of the Uttaranchal Sangharsh Samiti and appeared in the leading line in the movements for state building.
Role in assembly and government
Ajay Bhatt was an MLA from Ranikhet assembly seat from 1996 to 2007. During this, he served in the posts of ministers of various departments in the Uttarakhand government. From 2012 to 2017 he was the Leader of Opposition in the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly, where he played an effective opposition role against the policies of the Congress government. In the year 2015, he was unanimously appointed Uttarakhand Pradesh President of BJP. He also played an important role in promoting accountability and transparency as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Assembly.
Historic victory in Lok Sabha elections
In the 2017 assembly elections, he suffered a defeat to senior Congress leader Indira Hridayesh, but changed the defeat to a new beginning. In 2019, he contested from Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar Lok Sabha seat and reached Parliament for the first time by defeating Congress leader and former Chief Minister Harish Rawat by a record margin of 3,39,096 votes. In this election, he was also the state in -charge of Uttarakhand BJP and his role in the party’s strategic victory was decisive.
Social concerns and public service
Ajay Bhatt’s political life was not limited to power only. They have been constantly associated with social concerns. Through PILs, he raised issues of public interest in High Courts on subjects like health, education and women empowerment. Due to the difficult situations, they consider the pain of the deprived sections of the society very well. Many of his efforts have been focused on expansion of health facilities in rural areas, promoting girl education and self -reliance of women.

Ajay Bhatt is currently a member of India’s 17th and 18th Lok Sabha. He has also been associated with various ministries in the Modi government.
