New Delhi, May 1 (IANS). The Indian market has recorded a boom in SUV sales during April and automekers such as Mahindra & Mahindra, Toyota Kirloskar Motor and Kia Motors have registered a strong double -digit growth.
Mahindra & Mahindra sold 52,330 SUVs in the domestic market during the month, showing a strong growth of 28 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. Models like the company’s Scorpio, Thar and XUV are performing well in the market.
If exports are added, the company’s sales in this segment have increased by 19 percent to 54,860 units during the month.
Vijay Nakra, president of its automotive division, said, “These figures show the strength of our portfolio and customer offer.
Domestic sales of Kia India increased by 18.3 percent to 23,623 units in April 2025, which was 19,968 units in April 2024.
Kia’s compact SUV was the company’s best -selling model with the sale of 8,068 units during the SUV Sonnet month. The mid-size SUV was then ranked second with 6,135 units. At the same time, 5,259 units of MPV Carence were sold, while the recently introduced Cyros contributed 4,000 units to the sales. However, the total monthly sales of the premium carnival limosine were 161 units.
Senior Vice President of Kia India and Head of Sales and Marketing, Hardeep Singh Brar credited this growth to the success of Sonnet and positive market response for new Cyros.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor reported that its sales in April rose 33 per cent to 27,324 units on an annual basis, due to its strong SUV and multi-youutility vehicle line-up.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) said in a statement that domestic sales were 24,833 units last month, while 2,491 units contributed to exports.
The TKM said that the company is also excited by the positive response to the recently introduced Urban Cruiser Hyder, which is now equipped with better security, comfort and facilities, which has further strengthened its appeal among the customers.
