This decision was taken today in the sixth meeting of the State Convergence (Convergence) Committee under the Nutrition Campaign under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi.
After the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary of Women and Child Development and Health and Family Welfare Departments, Sudhir Rajpal said that under Nutrition 2.0, the focus is being on the ground level monitoring. It also includes the establishment of nutrition panchayats at the village level.
To strengthen the intervention at the village level, sub-committee of 10-15 women is being made under Gram Panchayats. These sub-committee will meet every month. They will monitor the integrated child development services (ICDS), will do social audit of food quality, will check the spot in Anganwadi centers and participate in the village health programs.
In addition, under the National Suffered Panchayat campaign, gram panchayats will be encouraged to reduce malnutrition with coordinated efforts in the state.
To improve dietary diversity, it is planned to create ‘nutrition garden’ (nutrition garden) at Anganwadi centers, schools, panchayati land and community places. Horticulture and AYUSH departments will provide technical assistance along with providing plants, seeds (including medicinal plants). Roadside fruit plants will also be planted by the Horticulture Department.
Sudhir Rajpal informed that under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan, efforts are being made to provide water connections to all Anganwadi centers through the Public Health Engineering Department. He called upon the panchayats play an active role in the maintenance and small repair of Anganwadi centers. The officials of the Panchayati Raj Department assured that every Panchayat will allocate up to 25 thousand rupees per Anganwadi center for such repair.
To increase transparency and efficiency in ration distribution, the nutrition tracker app has been integrated with facial recognition systems to ensure that only the real beneficiaries get the benefits.
To streamline the distribution of fortified milk under the Chief Minister Milk Gift Scheme, Online Management Information System (MIS) has been introduced. Through this system, the supply and demand of fortified milk for children and pregnant or breastfeeding mothers will be monitored.
Additionally, the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs was directed to find the possibility of making it mandatory to fortify rice, wheat and mustard oil sold in the state, taking another step to deal with nutritional deficiencies.
For the year 2025-26, a comprehensive Conversion Action Plan has been presented to the Ministry of Women and Child Development. In this action plan, a framework for coordinated strategies has been made in departments to achieve clear nutritional goals.
Sudhir Rajpal said that the efforts of the state government being made towards dealing with malnutrition in the state have started showing color. The government’s focused efforts under the nutrition campaign have led to a significant improvement in nutrition results. The ratio of low weight children has come down from 29.4 percent to 21.5 percent and dwarfness has come down from 34 percent to 27.5.
