According to Balmiki Ramayana, there was a severe drought in Mithila state once. King Janak was very worried about not having rain. On this, a sage advised him to perform a yajna and hold the field himself. Janak did the same on the advice of the sage. First performed the yajna, then started running a plow in the field.
When they were running the plow, their solution collided with something under the ground. King Janak removed the soil from that place, then saw a beautiful girl who was wrapped in the soil and a gold ball was made.
