The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has closed it, dismissing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as a British citizen. The court had ordered the central government to submit a report of citizenship in this case, but when the central government did not submit the report, the court said that the petition cannot be kept pending only in waiting for the report.
The court made it clear during the hearing of the case that if the government cannot submit the report, the petition cannot be kept pending on such a issue. The court also said that questions related to citizenship require adequate and accurate documentation, which was not presented in this case.
Rahul Gandhi was accused that his citizenship is British, and a petition in this regard was filed in the court. The petition claimed that Rahul Gandhi had gained British citizenship and is not an Indian citizen. However, the court closed it due to no concrete evidence in the case.
After this decision, Rahul Gandhi and his supporters called it a denial of allegations related to his citizenship and termed the matter as a conspiracy inspired by politics. At the same time, the opposition parties saw it as the judiciary’s decision, which proves all the allegations false.
The case had become a part of political discussion many times, in which there was also a period of allegations and counter-rhetoric. Now the court has given great relief to Rahul Gandhi by rejecting it, although some people are also considering it as motivated for political purpose.
