‘Mock drills’ (security exercises) will be done at 55 places including Connaught Place, Khan Market and Chandni Chowk to investigate the preparations for security agencies on Wednesday in Delhi.
The exercise is being done late Tuesday night by the Indian Armed Forces after the ‘Operation Sindoor’ conducted in Pakistan and Pakistan -occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Responding to the Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian armed forces launched airstrikes on nine terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan -occupied Kashmir (POK) in the early hours of Wednesday. These locations also included Jaish-e-Mohammed’s Garh in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s Muridke Adea.
Two weeks after the killing of 26 people in Pahalgam, this military action was taken under ‘Operation Sindoor’. Officials said all preparations for ‘mock drill’ have been completed.
A senior official said, “This exercise will be done at 55 places at four in the evening. We have also held meetings with the concerned parties regarding these exercises. ”
He reported that during the ‘mock drill’, various scenarios such as air strikes, fire incidents and search and rescue operations will be depicted during the ‘mock drill’. In 15 districts of the capital, several police teams will play sirens.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed all states to conduct such exercises as “new and complex dangers” have surfaced amidst increasing tension with Pakistan.
The security system was tightened by the Delhi Police on Tuesday and obstructive places were installed at major places including Connaught Place and the areas near Parliament.
The official said that the ‘mock drill’ to be held on Wednesday will also include around 2,000 civil security volunteers and 1,200 ‘disaster friends’ trained for disaster management.
