The Pakistani Army continued firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in four sectors of Jammu and Kashmir, which the Indian Army also gave a befitting reply. Officials gave this information on Thursday.
Officials said that compared to Wednesday, when the Pakistani Army had carried out the most intense artillery and mortar shelling over the years, targeting the advance villages of Jammu and Kashmir after the missile attacks by India under ‘Operation Sindoor’, the intensity of the firing on the border on Thursday was low and limited to four sectors.
A defense spokesperson in Jammu said, “The Pakistani army on the midnight of May 7 and 8, firing from small arms and cannons beyond the Line of Control near Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri and Akhnoor sectors of Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army also gave a proper reply.”
Officials said that there was no news of any casualty in the clash.
He said that 13 people were killed in the horrific shelling on Wednesday in the most affected Poonch sector in Jammu, but the situation was peaceful at night.
Hundreds of residents in the border areas have already moved to safe areas in view of the erupted violence.
The 13 people killed in Pakistani shelling were also Lance Nayak Dinesh Kumar of the 5-Old Regiment.
The army said in a post on X, “GOC (General Officer Commanding) and all rank of White Night Core salute the highest sacrifice of L/NK Kumar of 5 FD Regiment, who sacrificed their lives during the firing of the Pakistani army on 7 May. We are standing united with all the victims of innocent civilians in Poonch sector.”
The Indian armed forces carried out missile attacks on nine terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan -occupied Kashmir (POK) in the early hours of Wednesday to avenge the terrorist attack on 22 April in Pahalgam in South Kashmir. 26 people were killed in this attack, mostly tourists.
In view of the increasing tension, the authorities have ordered that all educational institutions in five border districts of Jammu region will be closed on Thursday for the second day. Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar said in a post that in view of the current situation, all schools, colleges and educational institutions in Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch districts will remain closed on Thursday for the second day on Thursday.
In Jammu division, the administration has also set up 24×7 control rooms in all 10 districts of the region. Thursday’s shelling was on the 14th consecutive night of firing on the border in Jammu and Kashmir amidst the increased tension after the Pahalgam attack.
The ceasefire violation along the Line of Control and International Border has become very rare since India and Pakistan renewed the ceasefire agreement on 25 February 2021.
