Now Indian passport has also become hi -tech! The Government of India has started e-passport. This new passport is similar to the old, but there is a chip inside it which makes your information more secure.
✈️ What is e-Passport?
The e-passport consists of an RFID chip and antenna.
It contains your photo, fingerprint and other personal details.
This causes rapid verification at the airport and reduces the risk of fraud or fake passport.
There is a small golden mark in front of the passport to identify it.
📍 Where are you getting?
It has just been started in some cities:
It is operational under the pilot project in Nagpur, Raipur, Bhubaneswar, Goa, Jammu, Amritsar, Shimla, Jaipur, Chennai, Surat, Hyderabad, Ranchi. It started on 3 March 2025 in Chennai and 20,000+ e-Passports have been formed by 22 March.
🤔 Are old passports upset?
No way. If you have a normal passport right now, it will remain valid till its end date. Taking e-Passport is at your will, it is not necessary.
📝 How to apply for e-passport?
Passport seva portal Go to and register.
Login and choose “Apply for New Passport / Reissue” option.
Choose “New” if you are taking the first time or “Reissue” if you have taken passports first.
Book the appointment and fill the fees.
Print the receipt of the appointment or show SMS.
Take your original documents on the due date and go to PSK or RPO.
