New Delhi, 14 May (IANS). Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday described the new semiconductor unit in Uttar Pradesh as an important step in search of India’s ‘technical self -reliance’ in the semiconductor area.
The Union Minister appreciated the move to flag off the establishment of the additional semiconductor manufacturing plant under the ‘Bharat Semiconductor Mission’ on the social media platform ‘X’.
Union Minister Gadkari wrote on ‘X’, “The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the establishment of an additional semiconductor manufacturing facility under the ‘Bharat Semiconductor Mission’.”
He further said, “With the construction of 5 units in the advance stage, this sixth plant is a major step in search of India’s technical self -sufficiency in the strategically important semiconductor sector.”
Union Minister Gadkari further informed about this plant that the new approved unit is a joint venture between HCL and Global Leader Foxconn in Electronics Manufacturing for its heritage in hardware development.
The plant will be located near the Jewar Airport within the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YIDA). The plant will produce display driver chips with 20,000 wafers and an estimated capacity of 36 million units per month.
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Modi on Wednesday approved the establishment of a semiconductor unit in Uttar Pradesh under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). This will attract investment of Rs 3,700 crore. This new plant will produce display driver chips for other devices with mobiles, laptops, automobiles, PCs and displays.
According to the cabinet note, “Laptop, mobile, server, medical device, power electronics, defense equipment and consumer electronics manufacturing in India are increasing the demand for semiconductor with the rapid development of electronics manufacturing, this new unit will carry forward the attitude of Prime Minister Modi’s ‘self -reliant India’.”
