New Delhi, 15 May (IANS). Another important achievement has been achieved towards connecting Sarai Kale Khan station to Jangpura stabling yard under Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has successfully completed the construction and installation of steel spans weighing 200 tonnes on the Barapula flyover.
This will play an important role in connecting the viaduct of the Spanish corridor smoothly. This special steel spain is made up of four large steel girders, with all the length of 40–40 meters and weighs 50–50 tonnes.
This challenging work was completed by the NCRTC team in two phases at night with the help of Delhi Administration, Public Works Department and Traffic Police. This place was quite complicated technically, as a drain is flowing on a down ground here, on the other side there is a Barapula flyover on it.
The Namo Bharat Corridor has to cross both these structures and move forward above them, for which this special steel span was constructed. The girders were picked up from the ground and placed on the first flyover and then carefully installed on the prescribed pillars with the help of cranes standing on either side of the flyover.
During the installation process, the power supply of 220 KV passing through the region was alternately alternated in collaboration with Delhi Transco Limited for security reasons. This complex task was successfully completed, following all precautions and safety standards.
NCRTC usually makes pillars at an interval of 34 meters in viadct construction, but where existing structures have to be crossed, special spans are resorted to. Parts of these special spans are first constructed in factories and then added to the site through the trailers at night.
Jangpura stabling yard Namo Bharat will play an important role in operating trains being built near Sarai Kale Khan station. Currently, trains are being operated at 11 stations in 55 km section from New Ashok Nagar in Delhi to Meerut South in Uttar Pradesh.
The NCRTC aims to start the entire Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Corridor to the general public by 2025. The 4.5 km long section from Sarai Kale Khan to New Ashok Nagar will be operated in the next phase, where the trial runs are going on from 13 April. This entire section will further strengthen the connectivity and efficiency of the corridor.
