Gorakhpur news: Children, if you were planning to go to the zoo this week, then cancel it! All zoos in Uttar Pradesh have been closed till 20 May with immediate effect. The decision has been taken a day after a tigress’s bird flu (H5N1) was confirmed at the Gorakhpur zoo. The Central Zoo Authority (CZA) has issued an order in this regard, after which an alert has also been issued for all the wildlife sanctuaries of the state.
Investigation team formed on the instructions of CM Yogi
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had instructed to ensure the safety and good of animals in all the zoos and safari parks of the state. In view of this, CZA has formed a five -member team for a thorough investigation into the tigress’s death. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Anuradha Vemuri said that this team will submit its detailed report within 15 days. Based on this report, further important decisions will be taken regarding the care and safety of animals.
Strict health protection protocol implemented
Given the danger of bird flu, special monitoring systems and tough health protection protocols have been implemented in all major zoos and safari parks of the state. These include Zoo in Lucknow, Kanpur and Gorakhpur as well as Etawah Safari Park. Officials say the step has been taken to ensure the safety of both animals and visitors. It is expected that only after the investigation report comes, a decision will be taken to reopen the zoos. At present, during this period, people have been appealed not to go to the zoo to avoid any untoward incident.
