The new terminal building at Patna’s Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport is set to completely change the air travel experience of Bihar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate this state -of -the -art terminal on 30 May 2025, which will improve a significant improvement in the state’s air connectivity and passenger amenities.
✈️ New Terminal: Confluence of modernity and cultural heritage
The new terminal building is spread over an area of 65,155 square meters and its annual passenger carrying capacity is being increased from 25 lakh to 1 crore. It is a two -storey structure, with the arrival area on the ground floor and departure area on the first floor, which will lead to more streamlings passenger traffic.

The design of the terminal reflects the rich cultural heritage of Bihar, taking inspiration from the ruins of Nalanda University and the internal decoration includes subjects like Madhubani painting, Bodhi tree, Gautama Buddha, Chhath Puja and Takht Shri Harimandir Ji Patna Sahib Gurudwara.
🌿 Steps towards environmental stability
The new terminal building is also important from the environmental point of view. It has obtained a four-star rating of Griha (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment), which reflects energy efficiency and its commitment to sustainable development. It uses energy-skilled lighting, rainwater harvesting, low-flow plumbing fixtures and environmentally friendly construction materials.
🛫 International flights return
Following a gap of 26 years, international flights are resumed from Patna Airport since April 2025. The proposed destinations include Japan, Vietnam and other Asian countries, which will increase Bihar’s global connectivity.
🏗️ Future plans: Bihta Airport
Due to the limited runway length of Patna Airport, there is difficulty in movement of large aircraft. To solve this problem, a new civil airport is being developed at Bihta, which will be able to handle large aircraft and reduce passenger loads at Patna Airport.
📅 Inauguration and further path
The new terminal building has been completed about 99% and is now waiting for the final approval of BCAS (Bureau of Civil Aviation Security). After the inauguration, the old terminal building will be demolished and four new aircraft parking bay will be replaced.
