The Congress on Monday alleged that the central government’s ‘Pradhan Mantri Internship Scheme’ has failed badly as the government lacks the required talent for the implementation of the schemes.
Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh also said that widespread public consultation should be done on caste census as “If it is abandoned to the Modi government, it will definitely create disturbances in it.”
Ramesh posted on ‘X’, “Since the return to power, the thoughtless and tired Modi government started taking inspiration from the Congress ‘justice letter’ (manifesto of Lok Sabha elections) for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. After 4 June 2024, the Modi government has agreed to withdraw ‘Angel Tax’, implement employment schemes, start internship scheme and get caste census conducted. ”
He claimed that the truth is that the Modi government is still struggling with a huge ‘talent deficit’ (lack of talent) and the implementation of these schemes has been very poor.
He says, “It has become clear from the report that now revealed that the internship scheme announced in the budget has also failed badly.”
According to Ramesh, the use of funds allocated for the Pradhan Mantri Internship Scheme has also been very low. He said that the budget of Rs 2,000 crore was initially reduced to Rs 380 crore for FY 2024-25 and only Rs 21.1 crore could be spent by February 2025.
He said, “This is partly due to low interest in the program. Various companies made 82,000 proposals of internships, but only 28,000 students accepted them and only 8,725 of them actually joined. That is, only seven percent of the students started internship under this scheme. Many interns left due to dissatisfaction and left in the middle. ”
Ramesh said that it not only raises serious questions on the reliability of this program, but also the government’s ability to implement its major plans.
He emphasized this, “Therefore the Congress is constantly demanding that a wide public consultation should be done on the caste census because if it is abandoned to the Modi government, it will definitely make a mess in it.”
