This decision will have a far -reaching impact on the candidates interested in judicial service. A bench of Chief Justice BR Gawai and Justice Augustine George Christ re -confirmed the importance of court experience for future judges.

The Chief Justice ruled, “The appointment of new law graduates has created many difficulties. Practical experience in court is necessary to ensure judicial efficiency and capacity,” the Chief Justice said.

The bench said that a minimum of three -year legal practice is mandatory for the posts of admission level civil judge of the lower division cadre to sit in the judicial service examination.

Significantly, this decision came on a petition filed by the All India Judge Association.

The Chief Justice said that practical challenges have arisen by allowing new law graduates to directly enter the judiciary, as reflected in reports submitted by various High Courts.
