The central government has made a big announcement for the disabled people across the country. The government decided that 4% of the houses in the houses allotted by the government would be reserved for the disabled. Let us tell you that the person is called a person who has one or more disabilities. Information was given by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. This step is a historic step taken towards the inclusive development of the weak and disabled people of the society.
Circular issued to the government
The Directorate of Estates has issued a circular to ensure proper access to the residential facilities of the Central Government for the disabled as per the Divyangjan Rights Act, 2016. According to this, 4% reservation will be provided to persons with disabilities in the allocation of central government housing, which will be an important step towards equality, respect and facility in public services. This initiative not only reflects the government’s commitment to the empowerment of every citizen, but also strengthens the foundation of inclusive and accessible India.
How will you be able to apply for home?
Central government employees who have minimal disability (as stated in Section 34 of the RPWD Act 2016) will be given priority in GPRA housing allocation. This priority will be given in the range of up to 4% of the vacant places available in each type of housing (up to Type V, including Hostels) every month. Such eligible PWD (disabled persons) applicants will be given priority in the general waiting list for both allocation/ changes for GPRA for the first time. The “Unique Disability ID (UDID)” released by the government will be valid as evidence of disability. The definition of “Benchmark Disability” is given in Section 2 (R) of RPWD Act 2016. This 4% housing allocation under reservation will be done by installing bids on the ESampada website every month, which will be operated by automated system of allotment – ASA. Applicants who are already registered will have to upload the UDID card in their profile, which will verify their ministry/department and send the application to the Directorate. Applicants have to bid in the “PWD” category on the ESampada website.
