Britain’s Justice Minister Shabana Mahmood.
London: The UK government has taken a new step for sexual criminals to use medicines to suppress their sexual desires. It is being called ‘Chemical Castation’, that is, such criminals will be made ‘impotent’ by using chemical. The surprising thing is that these steps have been taken to deal with the problem of lack of space in the jails and it is believed that it will also reduce the rate of crime. Justice Minister Shabana Mahmud told in Parliament on Thursday that the scheme will be started in 2 areas in 20 jails and it is being considered mandatory.
This method is being used in many countries
Shabana Mahmood said, “It is necessary that psychological treatment should be done along this method, which should affect other reasons for crime such as strength and control desire.” However, investigation has revealed that this treatment is not suitable for criminals who commit crimes with power and control, such as a rapist. But according to the study, the rate of crime again can decrease by up to 60 per cent from chemical kestation. This method is compulsorily used in Germany and Denmark on voluntary basis and for some criminals in Poland.
Shabana Mahmood rained on Conservative Government
This suggestion to make sexual criminals ‘impotent’ is part of a comprehensive review led by former Justice Minister David Gocker, considering ways to improve the jail system and reduce crime. Shabana Mahmud first started a early release program to vacate the place in jails after the labor party came to power in July last year. He said that the previous Conservative Government ignored the judicial system for years, due to which this step had to be taken. He warned that if there is a shortage of space in the jails, the police will have to stop arrests and the criminals will openly roam.
These recommendations made to make a place in jails
The review also suggested that prisoners be released first for good behavior, giving more exemption to judges to ban driving, and should be given rigorous community punishment by abolishing the sentence of less than 12 months. In addition, it has also been recommended to exist immediately to foreign nationals who are punished 3 years or less. However, Conservative Party Justice Spokesperson Robert Jenrich warned that the abolition of small sentences would not remain crimes like theft, burglary and attack on people.
The number of prisoners lodged in Britain jails increases
Robert Zenrich also described the electronic tag as ‘as useless as alarm of smoke to extinguish the fire’. In response, Shabana Mahmood said that she is fixing the disturbances made by the Conservative Government and the biggest expansion of jails has been started since the 19th century. Explain that in the last 3 decades in the UK, the population of jails has doubled to around 90,000, even if the rate of crime has decreased. The reason for this is the trend of long punishment amidst the demand for strictness towards crime. With this new policy, the government is emphasizing on reducing the crowd of jails and rehabilitation of criminals. (AP)
