New Delhi, 24 May (IANS). Drinking water after meals in Ayurveda has been described as poison, since childhood we have all been listening to this. But our ancient medical system says so, so why let’s try to know this.
“Ajirne Bheshjam Wari, Rishne Wari Balpram. According to this verse, consuming water in the event of indigestion provides force to take water like medicine and after digesting food. At the same time, drinking a sip of water in the middle of food is like nectar, while drinking water after meals is like poison.
If you talk about science behind it, then there is a small part of a bag on the left side of the navel in our stomach, which is called gastric. We also call it stomach. There is a process of digesting food. It has a fire, when we feel hungry, this fire indicates us that the body needs energy. Our elderly and old people also call it Jathragani.
If you eat food in hunger, it seems quite sweet and it is easily digested. At the same time, the fire of the gastric is influenced until one hour after eating. Jathragni sends the diet juice obtained from food to different parts of our body in its process. Whereas, drinking water after meals causes extinguishing of gastritis.
Even in practical life, it is extinguished by pouring water in the fire, in the same way, drinking water after eating food extinguishes the gastritis, due to which the process of digesting food stops. When the food is not able to digest in its appointed one hour, it will stop there and will be bad. After this, indigestion food will become a factor of gas problem and bad odor in the body.
This is the reason that drinking water after eating in Ayurveda is considered as poison.
