May 26 has special significance in the democratic history of the country, as Narendra Modi was sworn in as the Prime Minister of the country for the first time on this day after a brilliant election victory in 2014. In 2019, Narendra Modi took over as the Prime Minister of the country for the second consecutive time and this time also the date of 26 May had a special significance.
In fact, in a release issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan on 26 May 2019, it was informed that President Ram Nath Kovind would administer Modi on 30 May at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
On 26 May 2014, Narendra Modi was sworn in as the Prime Minister of the country and became Prime Minister again in 2019.
Talking about other Prime Ministers of the country, after independence, Jawaharlal Nehru became the first Prime Minister of the country on 15 August 1947 and after his death on 27 May 1964, Gulzari Lal Nanda was made the acting Prime Minister of the country, he held the post till 9 June 1964.
After him, very simplicity and humble Lal Bahadur Shastri took over as Prime Minister and after his death on 11 January 1966, Gulzari Lal Nanda was once again made the acting Prime Minister of the country. This time her tenure was only 13 days and on 24 January 1966, the responsibility came to the shoulders of the country’s first and only female Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. She held the post till 24 March 1977 and the post was held by Morarji Desai, the next reins of the post.
Morarji Desai served as the Prime Minister of the country till 28 July 1979 and after him the farmer leader Chaucharan Singh sat in the post. Chau Charan Singh’s term remained till 14 January 1980 and after this date, Indira Gandhi once again became the Prime Minister of the country and she held the post till she was killed by her Sikh bodyguards on 31 October 1984.
After him his son Rajiv Gandhi took over the reins of the country and held the post till December 1, 1989. Vishwanath Pratapsingh took over as the Prime Minister from 2 December 1989 to 10 November 1990 and after that Chandrashekhar became the Prime Minister of the country from 21 June 1991. In this way, between 31 October 1984 to 21 June 1991, the country saw three Prime Minister.
The following five years P.V. Narasimha Rao served in this post and on 16 May 1996, the government of poet Heart Atal Bihari Vajpayee was formed, which was found only till June 1. The next Prime Minister became HD Deve Gowda who took over the reins of the country from June 1, 1996 to April 21, 1997. After this, Indrakumar Gujral was made Prime Minister till 18 March 1998.
It is an interesting fact here that between 16 May 1996 and 18 March 1998, the country saw three faces as Prime Minister and this series did not stop here, on 19 March 1998, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who became the Prime Minister of the country on 19 March 1998, could last the post till October 13, 1999, it is a different thing that the next government was also under his leadership and he held his post till the completion of his tenure till 22 May 2004.
After this, ten years were named after Dr. Manmohan Singh. He took over the post of Prime Minister from 22 May 2004 to 26 May 2014.
