New Delhi. A Delhi court on Monday accepted a closure report of the Delhi Police in a sexual harassment case lodged by a minor wrestler against former head of the Indian Wrestling Association (WFI) and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) of Patiala House Court Gomti Manocha said that the closure report has been accepted.
Earlier on 17 May, ASJ Manocha summoned the wrestler who accused Singh of sexual harassment. The court directed him to appear in court on 26 May. The closure report of the police was filed on 15 June 2023, which was not opposed by the complainant.
The victim and her father expressed satisfaction over the police investigation on 1 August 2023 and did not object to the police report in the case. He recorded his statement in a closed room in front of ADJ Chitra Kapoor. The court sought a response from the complainant on the police closure report on 4 July 2023.
The 550 -page report filed by the police in the Patiala House Court said that no evidence was found by the allegations made by the minor wrestler.
Delhi Police said, “After the investigation in the Poxo case, we have submitted a report under Section 173 of the CRPC, requesting the complainant i.e. the victim’s father and the victim to close the case based on the victim’s statements.”
An FIR was lodged under the Poxo (Poxo) Act of sexual offenses on the allegations leveled by the minor wrestler. In addition, an FIR was also lodged under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
However, the father of the minor wrestler later claimed that he had lodged a false complaint of sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan. He had said that his action was inspired by the anger and frustration caused by the WFI chief due to his alleged biased behavior towards his daughter.
According to sources, a second statement was recorded before the court under Section 164 of the CRPC by the minor, in which he did not accuse Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment.
Delhi Police had registered two separate FIRs against the former WFI chief based on allegations of sexual harassment.
