Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid tribute to the first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru on his 61st death anniversary. Apart from him, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi also recalled Nehru’s leadership.
Prime Minister Modi wrote on Twitter, “Tribute to our former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his death anniversary.”
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi also paid tribute to the first Prime Minister of India. In a post on X, Gandhiji recalled Nehru’s “visionary leadership” in laying a strong foundation of independent India.

Earlier today, Congress Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi paid floral tributes to Jawaharlal Nehru’s Samadhi Shanti Van in Delhi.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also paid tribute to Nehru and described him as the creator of modern India. He said that India cannot be imagined for the 21st century without the contribution of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
Kharge said in a post on X, “The creator of modern India, the bold watchdog of democracy, from zero to the peak, scientists, economic, industrial and who developed India in various fields, who gives the message of continuous ‘diversity’ to the country, humble tribute to the death anniversary of our inspiration, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru ji. Recalling Jawaharlal Nehru, the Congress said on its official X handle, “On his death anniversary, we salute the country’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, whose vision shaped modern India. Jawaharlal Nehru was a freedom fighter who played an important role in the freedom struggle of India. He also became the first Prime Minister of India after independence in 1947.
Nehru held this position for more than 16 years and died of a heart attack on 27 May 1964. Lal Bahadur Shastri then took over as the second Prime Minister of India.
Nehru is considered the precursor to India’s Non -Aligned Movement (NAM). Due to their love for children, Nehru was also called ‘Chacha Nehru’ and on 14 November, his birth anniversary is celebrated every year in India as Children’s Day.
