New Delhi. Local women court convicted A.K. Gyanasekharan is sentenced to at least 30 years of life imprisonment. Sessions Judge M Rajalakshmi has also imposed a fine of Rs 90 thousand on the convict. On May 28, the court convicted Gyansekharan and fixed today’s date for punishment. The SIT was formed to investigate the matter. Let us tell you that the second year student of engineering studying at Anna University alleged that when she was with one of her male friends on the campus, Gyanasekharan came there and threatened her and raped her. On 23 December 2024, when the student and her male friend were on the university campus, the accused allegedly recorded a video of her and made her a victim by threatening to make her viral.
The National Commission for Women also took automatic cognizance in this matter. NCW President Vijaya Rahatkar had directed the DGP of Tamil Nadu to fight justice to the victim student and BNS, Section 71 of 2023 should be ensured for strict punishment to the rapist. The victim student was also reprimanded by the Chennai police for revealing the identity of the victim. The then BJP President of Tamil Nadu, Annamalai, also defeated himself in the rape case of an engineering student. Along with this, he said that he had also announced to be on hunger strike for 48 days.
