The Delhi Bar Council on Monday demanded the immediate release of ‘Instagram Influenceer’ Sharmishtha Panoli arrested by Kolkata Police for alleged comments regarding ‘Operation Sindoor’.
Sharmishtha, a resident of Kolkata and studying at Law University in Pune, was arrested late on 30 May from Gurugram in Haryana.
He was later produced in a Kolkata court, which sent the influencer to judicial custody by 13 June.
A release issued by the council chairman Surya Prakash Khatri said, “Delhi Bar Council strongly condemns the incident of the arrest of 22 -year -old law student Sharmishtha Panoli by West Bengal Police for posting a video on social media.” After some people were hurt by the video, Sharmishtha immediately deleted the video and also apologized, despite this he was arrested. ”
He said, “On behalf of Delhi Bar Council, I demand Sharmistha’s immediate release.”
Khatri alleged that the Kolkata police arrested Panoli arbitrarily and unnecessarily and the action was taken inspired by politics.
Bar Council of India President Manan Kumar Mishra issued a similar statement on June 1 demanding immediate release of Panoli.
A case has been registered against Sharmistha for promoting enmity among various groups, malicious acts with the intention of hurting religious sentiments, deliberately insulting and provoking peace.
