Actor Kamal Haasan said on Tuesday that his statement in the audio launch program of ‘Thug Life’ regarding Kannada language was misunderstood.
In a letter to the ‘Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce’ (KFCC), the actor said, “I am sad that my statement at the thugs life audio launch, which was said to be the real affection, especially from the family of veteran Dr. Rajkumar, especially from Shiva Rajkumar, was misunderstood and was presented separately from the context.”
He said that he only meant to tell that “we are all one, and are from the same (linguistic) family” and he did not mean any way to underestimate the Kannada language in any way. Hassan said, “There is no dispute or debate on the rich heritage of Kannada language.” He said that he is writing this letter with deep respect to the people of Karnataka.
Explain that Kamal Haasan had knocked on the door of the High Court, demanding instructions to officers including Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce not to oppose the release of thug life. The actor’s lawyer argued that the statement has been taken in the wrong context and presented in the court written by Kamal Haasan.
The High Court bench, reprimanding the veteran actor over his statement ‘Kannada Tamil’, said, “The partition of this country is on linguistic basis. A public person cannot give such a statement. What has happened due to this? Unrest, disharmony. The people of Karnataka had only apologized. Now on what basis have you come to ask for security. Knowing the importance, it is said that it is made by Mani Ratnam, but you cannot make a statement.
After the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) announced the boycott of the film, Kamal approached the Karnataka High Court, until the actors publicly apologize for their recent statements. The comment made during a publicity program in Chennai gave rise to widespread reaction from the pro -Kannada organizations and gave rise to political dispute. KFCC President M. Narasimhalu reiterated the attitude of the Chamber. Narasimhalu said, “Kamal Haasan should go to court. We have not done anything illegal. But we will not allow the screening of thug life in Karnataka unless he apologizes.
