In view of the stampede at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, 11 people lost their lives and 33 others were injured, medical officials of Bourning and Lady Curzon Hospital have reported six bodies and 18 injured on the day of the incident.
Talking to the media, Medical Superintendent Dr. T. Kamparaju said, “After the stampede we found 18 injured people and six bodies. Out of 18 injured persons, eight were given treatment and they went home, while the remaining 10 patients have been admitted to the hospital for monitoring. Three of the 10 people have been fractured in the feet. We have received instructions to take care of patients.”
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered a magistrate inquiry into the incident. The accident occurred when thousands of fan gathered in the stadium during the celebration of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s IPL victory.
Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwar confirmed that the state government had no role in organizing the program. After inspecting the site, “We did not request RCB or KCA, he organized it (Vijay Utsav). He brought the team to Bengaluru. The government also felt that the government should give it that it should be given to him, because it was a team of Bangalore. I am very sad.”
Addressing the media, CM Siddaramaiah said, “11 people died and 33 people were injured in the stampede. It should not have been a tragedy. The government expresses deep grief over the incident.” He announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased and assured that all the injured would get free medical treatment.
