Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB )’s first IPL win celebrations have been recorded against RCB, event manager DNA and Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) Administrative Committee after 11 people killed in stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium and injured 47 people. This tragic incident took place on Wednesday, 4 June 2025, when thousands of fans gathered outside the stadium to celebrate RCB’s victory.
According to the police, at 7 am, RCB announced a victory parade on its social media handle, but it was later canceled and a felicitation program was announced. However, the situation became uncontrolled due to the huge crowd. The stadium has a capacity of 35,000, but the estimated 2-3 lakh people reached there, causing a stampede at gate number 7.
The Karnataka government has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased, and has promised free treatment for the injured. The Karnataka High Court has taken self -cognizance of the matter and directed the state government to file the status report by June 10. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, “We did not expect such a huge crowd. The accident occurred due to the pressure of the stadium’s small gate and the crowd.”
The RCB expressed deep grief in a statement and announced an additional assistance of Rs 5 lakh for the victim families. Many celebrities including cricketers Virat Kohli and Krunal Pandya have mourned this tragedy. Former cricketer Madan Lal criticized the RCB management and said that such negligence is unacceptable.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar expressed grief over the incident and said that this has damaged the image of Bengaluru. The government has announced to create new SOPs (standard operating process) for large events to prevent such incidents in future.
