Former UK football captain and global icon David Beckham will be awarded Knighthud in King Charles III’s upcoming birthday honor list. After this honor, he will be called “Sir David Beckham”, while his wife Victoria Beckham will get the title of “Lady Beckham”.
50 -year -old Beckham is being given this honor for his football career and charity work. He played 115 international matches for England and captained 59 times. His memorable achievements include a free-kick goal in the last minute in the World Cup qualifier against Greece in 2001, with England qualified for the 2002 World Cup. At the club level, he won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League Treble in 1999 with Manchester United.
Beckham was awarded the Obe (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in 2003. However, in 2011, he was prevented by her nighthuds due to alleged involvement in the tax avoidance scheme, but later she got a clean chit.
After retirement from football, Beckham worked with UNICEF for children’s rights and became ambassadors of the King’s Foundation. He also recently received the Crystal Award for children’s rights at the World Economic Forum.
Beckham’s close relationship with King Charles has also been helpful in this honor. Recently, at the Chelsea Flower Show, King Charles asked Beckham, “You got it, right?” To which Beckham replied, “It was incredible, thank you.”
Beckham will now be included in the list of football veterans who have got knighthuds, such as Sir Bobby Charlton and Sir Alex Ferguson.
