Pakistan distances from Khwaja Asif's 'Shimla Agreement dead' statement, Ministry of External Affairs clarified

A day after Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khwaja Asif called the 1972 Shimla Agreement a “dead document”, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has clarified that no decision has been taken to cancel any bilateral agreement with India, including the Shimla Agreement.

A senior Foreign Ministry official said that recent incidents have given rise to internal discussions in Islamabad, but no formal decision has been taken to abolish any bilateral agreement. He also indicated that all agreements, including the Shimla Agreement, remain effective.

This explanation is being seen as distance from the statement of the Defense Minister by Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry. Despite internal discussions, the ministry has indicated that Pakistan is in favor of maintaining its bilateral agreements with India.
