New Delhi, 7 June (IANS). Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Saturday that more than 33 crore customers in the country now get doorstep delivery of LPG cylinders within a few hours of booking.
On the occasion of World LPG Day, Union Minister Puri credited this widespread reach and efficiency to make the government’s continuous efforts to make clean cooking fuel accessible to every household.
Union Minister Puri said that the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) has been a special contribution to change the way of cooking of people in the areas of rural and remote areas, especially in rural and remote areas.
“Over 10.33 crore women under PMUY have been given LPG connection for free under PMUY, which helped them to make changes to safe and clean LPG from traditional fuel.”
Union Minister Puri further said, “This revolution has not only improved the health conditions by reducing the smoke of the kitchen, but has also saved precious time for women, which has improved their quality of life.”
He also appreciated the efforts of the workers involved in LPG production and distribution and said that the LPG network now covers almost every part of India from remote villages to urban apartment complexes.
He said, “Today, LPG is making the lives of people easier as clean kitchen fuel from remote villages and inaccessible areas of the country to urban buildings and bungalows.”
He said that LPG prices have increased by about 58 percent internationally, but PMUY beneficiaries in India are still getting 14.2 kg LPG cylinder for just Rs 553, while this price of cylinders for regular consumers is Rs 853.
The government has taken several active steps to ensure the implementation of the fuel, including the major excise duty cuts and encouraging oil marketing companies to bear the price increase.
Union Minister Puri also said that the LPG revolution in the Modi government has saved millions of trees from cutting.
