These are the questions that the Karnataka government will have to file in the High Court by June 10 in connection with the stampede that took place on June 4. 11 people died in this stampede.
The High Court has directed the state government to submit a detailed answer on nine important questions. The bench of Acting Chief Justice V. Kameshwar Rao and Justice CM Joshi asked these questions on Thursday while hearing the writ petition filed by the court in view of this tragedy. The government has been asked to file a reply by June 10.
The stampede took place in front of the Chinnaswamy Stadium on the evening of June 4, where a large number of people gathered to participate in the RCB team’s Indian Premier League (IPL) victory. 11 people were killed and 56 were injured in the incident.
The bench also questioned the existence of a standard operation process (SOP) for the management of sports events and the managing meetings of over 50,000 people for public functions of this scale.
The remaining questions asked by the back were focused on the state’s preparation and response, such as: What measures were taken to control traffic around the venue? What was the arrangement to control the crowd? What medical and emergency facilities were available on the spot? Was already the number of people present estimate?
The bench also asked that, was the injured immediate medical assistance at the scene? If not, why? How long did it take to take the injured to the hospital?
Political and official sources indicated that due to these difficult questions and judicial investigation, the state government has given Bangalore Police Commissioner B.A. It has been decided to suspend five senior police officers including Dayanand.
