Heavy rains and floods in Assam, Sikkim and Manipur are disturbed; Prime Minister Modi assured all possible help

The flood situation in the Northeast is becoming worrying. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and Manipur Governor Ajay Bhalla on the situation arising due to heavy rains and floods in the area. Also assured all possible help and support.

Let us know that the number of people who lost their lives in floods and landslides in the Northeast has reached 36. More than 5.5 lakh people have been affected in many states of the region. Floods and landslides in the northeastern region have killed the highest number of 11 people in Assam, followed by 10 in Arunachal Pradesh, six in Meghalaya, five in Mizoram, three in Sikkim and one in Tripura.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, ‘Shortly ago the Prime Minister called me to get information about the current flood situation in Assam. I told them how there has been floods due to continuous rains in Assam and surrounding states and this has affected the lives of many people. I also informed them about the relief work being run by the state government. The Prime Minister expressed concern and assured full support from the Central Government for our relief and rehabilitation efforts. Thank you for his guidance and unwavering support for the people of Assam. ‘

Meanwhile, a team of 23 NDRF personnel reached Chattain in North Sikkim on Tuesday to search and rescue six soldiers missing at an army camp due to landslide in Sikkim. The official said that the NDRF team is equipped with satellite phones and necessary emergency equipment. Three army personnel were killed and six soldiers went missing after landslides were hit in a military camp here. The landslide area, which occurred at 7 pm on Sunday evening near Lchen city of Mangan district, was due to heavy rains.

The school in Aizawl remained closed for the fourth day on Tuesday due to landslides in various parts of Mizoram due to heavy rains. A notification issued by Lalhariyatpuia, Deputy Commissioner of Aizawl and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority stated that all schools in Aizawl district are advised to suspend the attendance of school students on June 3 to ensure the safety and good of the students. The capital Aizawl received heavy rains on Tuesday morning. Earlier on 29, 30 May and 2 June, all schools across the state were closed due to rain for three days.

The flood situation in Assam remains serious on Tuesday, where more than 5.35 lakh people are affected in more than 20 districts. The Meteorological Department has predicted more rain in many parts. The Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) at Guwahati has released ‘Orange Alert’ for four districts Dhubri, Dakshin Salamara Mankachar, Golpara and Kokrajhar for Tuesday. Officials said the situation remains serious, with the death toll in floods and landslides 11, while two others are missing. Road, rail and boat services were affected in the state due to heavy rains in many areas.
