New Delhi. It is reported that India has clearly told the US in the case of tariff that if it does not remove the tariff, India will not remove the tariff. News agency PTI quoted sources as saying that the Indian side has clearly said this in a conversation with America’s business representatives in Delhi and Washington. According to sources, the representatives of India have demanded the US to remove the baseline tariff of 10 per cent and the proposed 16 per cent tariffs from July 9. India’s dialogues have clearly stated that if the US does not remove the tariff, then India will also put a counter -tariff on things imported from America.
On June 4, the US delegation came to India under the leadership of Brandon Lynch, US trade representative. This team of America will hold talks in Delhi till 10 June. Whereas, the first US dialogues were to return on 6 June itself. According to PTI, a senior officer said that the ideal situation would be that with the interim trade agreement, 10 percent baseline and 16 percent of other tariffs are removed on Indian things in the US. Otherwise, India will also have the right to impose 26 percent tariffs on things imported from America. If the US does not agree on this demand of India, then the trade agreement between the two countries may be stuck. Let us know that America and India have decided that by 2030 they will bring mutual trade to $ 500 billion.
India does not want the same way the US has entered into a trade agreement with Britain. UK has been given some exemption by the US under the trade agreement, but the baseline tariff of 10 per cent has been implemented. India had earlier signed a free trade agreement with Britain. In which in a phased manner, both countries have agreed to bring tariffs on each other’s products very little or zero. India also wants a similar trade agreement from America. US President Donald Trump has been constantly describing PM Narendra Modi as his good friend, but at the same time he has also said that India imposes a lot of tariffs. Trump had earlier announced 26 per cent of recipes on India.
