A Delhi court on Monday gave permission to talk to his family members on the phone to his family members accused of jailed Mumbai terror attacks. Special Judge Chander Jeet Singh gave Rana this exemption only once.
Along with this order, the court also said that a senior officer of Tihar will be present during the phone conversation with Tahawwur Rana’s family.
However, on 24 April, the court rejected Rana’s petition to talk to the family. Then Special Judge Chander Jeet Singh at Patiala House refused to give permission after hearing the arguments of the NIA.
The NIA had argued that he could share important information if he was allowed to talk to his family members. The agency said that the matter is still in an important phase.
At the same time, the advocate appearing on behalf of Rana had argued that as a foreign national, it is Rana’s fundamental right to talk to his family, who are concerned about his health. Following this refusal from the court, terrorist Tahavvur Rana again filed a petition in the court that he should be allowed to talk to the family, after which the decision has come.
