Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Sanjay Raut on Monday criticized the Election Commission and asked if the Commission has given any ‘contract’ to overcome the doubts raised by the opposition parties about its functioning from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
This strict comment by Raut came after Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis wrote an article in a newspaper on Sunday after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi responded to allegations of ‘match fixing’ and ‘rigging’ in the 2024 Maharashtra assembly elections.
The Election Commission dismissed Gandhi’s allegation and said that it is completely absurd to discredit the Commission after adverse results.
In response to Gandhi’s claims, Fadnavis said in his article that Congress leaders are constantly ‘insulting’ the democratic process and mandate.
Talking to reporters, Raut said, ‘Rahul Gandhi has asked questions from the Election Commission, not the BJP. Why should Devendra Fadnavis reply? Has the Election Commission given the contract to the BJP to wipe out dust from its face and remove doubts about its functioning? He said that the issue is not only about elections, but also about the conduct of the Election Commission in the last ten years.
