The flood situation in Assam improved significantly on Tuesday and all the major rivers, including the Brahmaputra and its tributaries, are flowing below the danger mark. The officers provided this information.
Officials said that there is no news of rain from any part of the state during the last 24 hours. Around 1.60 lakh people are currently affected by floods in nine districts of the state.
The death toll in the first wave of floods and landslides has increased to 27. On Monday, a person drowned in water in Sri Bhumi district. He said that 389 villages of a total of 25 revenue areas (circles) are affected by floods.
Sri Bhumi is the most affected district, where more than 1.20 lakh people are still affected by floods.
Officials of the affected districts have opened relief camps and more than 6,000 people are still taking shelter in 91 camps set up for this purpose, while over 40,000 distribution centers are providing relief materials.
In the flood waters, the crop in an area of 3,594.26 hectares has been submerged and 1,13,605 animals have also been affected. The current wave of floods is also affected by Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Sanctuary, where seven animals have died.
According to the Bulletin of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), Kamrup district is still affected by floods and three relief camps have been set up, where 61 people have taken refuge.
Currently Halakandi, Kamrup, Sri Bhumi, Morigaon, Cachar, Golaghat, Nagaon, Kamrup (Metro) and Lakhimpur districts are affected by floods.
