Tatkal ticket booking: Indian Railways has implemented important rules for booking Tatkal tickets through IRCTC. This new rules have been done to prevent misuse and provide appropriate access to real passengers. These changes include compulsory basis verification for online booking, OTP verification on counters and booking restrictions for agents during busy time. The new rules of the immediate booking scheme through IRCTC will be applicable from July 1, 2025. It states that only base-authenticated users can book a train ticket immediately. This is according to the instructions issued by the Ministry of Railways to all railway zones on 10 June 2025. Apart from this, from 15 July 2025, passengers will have to complete the OTP verification process related to Aadhaar for immediate booking. Under the new guidelines, agents will be banned from booking Tatkal tickets during the first 30 minutes of booking window at the time of opening of immediate booking. What should passengers ensure?
Passengers will have to link their Aadhaar number to the IRCTC user profile and complete the verification process to book Tatkal tickets online. All Tatkal tickets purchased through counters and railway agents will require additional OTP (One-Time Password) certification. Therefore, passengers and agents should focus on these new immediate booking rules through IRCTC from 1 July and enjoy hassle -free booking experience.
