In the Pannuganj police station area, the court sentenced Gaurav Patel to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in the case of raping a high school student, raping her forcibly abortion and threatening to kill her when she is pregnant. The court has also imposed a fine of ₹ 10,000, in the event of non -payment, the convict will have to suffer an additional imprisonment of one month. This decision was pronounced by the court of Additional Sessions Judge/Special Judge (Poxo Act) Amit Veer Singh. While giving the verdict, the court clarified that the accused took advantage of the innocence and trust of the minor girl, which falls under the category of serious crime.
What was the matter?
The case came to light in December 2019, when the victim himself reached Pannuganj police station and lodged an FIR against the accused Gaurav Patel. The victim had told in Tahrir that she is a high school student and she had known her acquaintance from Belhiya (Pannuganj police station area), a resident of Gaurav Patel, Srinath Patel, while coming to school. Gaurav made a physical relationship with the girl by pretending to marry and when the victim became pregnant, she forcibly destroyed her womb by feeding her abortion medicine. When the victim opposed this, the accused promised to get married early but later retracted.
Excuse of marriage in temple, then insulting and threatened
The victim also said that on 1 December 2019, she went to Chatra Bazaar where Gaurav met. Gaurav took the excuse of marriage in the temple and took her with him. Then, by taking a deserted place, insulted the caste -based words and threatened to marry a knife that he would never marry her. The accused kept him hostage with him for a day, and while leaving December 2, warned that if he told anyone something, he would kill the whole family.
Police and court action
During the investigation, the police found adequate evidence based on the victim’s complaint, medical report and other evidence. After which a charge sheet was filed against Gaurav Patel under Section 376 (2) (N), 504, 506 IPC, 3/4 Poxo Act, and SC/ST Act Section 3 (2) 5. On behalf of the prosecution in the court, government advocates Dinesh Prasad Agarhari, Satyaprakash Tripathi and Neeraj Kumar Singh presented all the witnesses and evidences firmly while advocating effectively.
On the basis of the facts revealed during the hearing, the court sentenced Gaurav Patel to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and ₹ 10,000. It also ordered that if the amount of penalty is deposited, then ₹ 8,000 should be given to the victim as compensation.
Message to society
This decision gives a message to the society that exploitation made with minor girls in the name of false promises is a serious offense and the law takes strict action for this. This decision of the court strengthens the trust of the victims in the judicial system and also warns potential criminals that no one can escape the grip of the law.
