Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the phone on Friday and informed about the stressful situation of West Asia after an airstrikes on Iran. The attack, which Israel named ‘Operation Rising Lion’, was intended to destroy Iran’s atomic and military bases. Netanyahu told Modi about the objectives and regional influences of this military action.
Modi wrote on X, “Israeli PM Netanyahu got a call. He informed me about the situation. I shared India’s concerns and stressed the need for early peace in the region.” India appealed to both sides to restrain and resolve the dispute through negotiations.
The Israeli army attacked more than 100 bases including uranium enrichment center in Natanj, Iran in the early hours of Friday. Israel claims that Iran can make nine nuclear weapons. Netanyahu said, “We attacked the heart of Iran’s nuclear program.” Iran warned of retaliation by calling it a “declaration of war”.
India’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement to express concern over Israeli attacks and appealed to exercise restraint. The ministry said, “We are monitoring the situation. Indian citizens be alert.” The embassy advised Indians living in Iran and Israel to avoid non-essential travel.
Netanyahu spoke to the leaders of Germany, France, and India and also planned to talk to the leaders of America, Russia, and Britain. Israel says that this action was for its safety, but the possibility of Iran’s retaliation has increased the threat of war.
Modi emphasized peace and diplomacy. India has supported regional stability and its diplomatic role may be important in reducing stress.
Israel-Iran tension has brought West Asia to the brink of war. The appeal and diplomatic efforts of India’s peace shows its responsible image. Recently, amidst reports of Vijay Rupani’s death in the Ahmedabad plane crash, India is facing regional and domestic challenges.
