Shoot at sight order: The state government has issued an order to ‘shoot’ on suspicious activities at night, taking a tough stance on suspicious activities at night, amidst communal disturbance from the severed ends of the cattle near the temple in Dhubri district of Assam. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while making this announcement, reiterated the ‘Zero tolerance’ policy on the insult of religious places.
The step was taken when a cow’s head was found near the famous Hanuman temple in Dhubri on June 7 after Eid-ul-Azha, causing tension in the area. The very next day, a similar case came to light again. Two consecutive incidents deepened the tension between the communities, after which there were incidents of stone pelting in the city at night.
Chief Minister warns, government will deal strictly
CM Sarma said, whoever tries to impure religious places, strict action will be taken on it. If someone suspects someone and is involved in stone pelting or violence, then there should be no hesitation in shooting.
Paramilitary forces deployed, security link
To keep the situation under control, the state government has deployed Rapid Action Force (RAF) and CRPF in Dhubri. Section 144 already engaged was removed for some time, but security arrangements have been made and strict after the situation deteriorated. Now the area is being vigilant through drones, CCTV and night patrol.
‘Beef Mafia’ and separatist poster investigation
Chief Minister Sarma described the hand of ‘Beef Mafia’ behind this tension, who was planning to slaughter Bakrid by bringing a large number of cows from West Bengal illegally to Dhubri. He has ordered an inquiry, calling it a criminal conspiracy. At the same time, cognizance has also been taken on some posters installed by an organization called ‘Naveen Bangla’, in which it was said to connect Dhubri to Bangladesh. The CM called it a conspiracy against the unity and integrity of the state.
Government’s blunt message
The Chief Minister clearly said that no one in Assam will be allowed to spread communal tension. He warned that if such incidents were repeated in future, they will reach the spot and monitor the situation. He said that Dhubri cannot go out of our control, the law will do its work and no convict will be spared.
