Miraculous anecdote of refusal to meet Prime Minister
Neem Karoli is also one of the most talked about events in Baba’s life when he refused to meet the then Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. The incident took place during Baba’s stay in Kanpur. It is said that Baba was giving darshan with about 200 devotees at Sarsaiya Ghat, when the DSP and some policemen of Kanpur reached there. He requested Baba that Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri and Gulzarilal Nanda want to come to meet him.
However, Baba flatly refused the meeting. Even after this, the policemen tried to take the Prime Minister and Gulzarilal Nanda to Baba. As soon as he reached Baba, Baba suddenly merged into a light. Everyone was surprised and tried to see them, but Baba had become invisible. After a while, Baba again returned among his devotees.
Baba’s message: There should be no wall between the devotee and God
After this miraculous incident, a devotee questioned Baba that why did you refuse to meet the Prime Minister of the country? Baba replied that he does not discriminate against any devotee. If the Prime Minister came directly to him like a common devotee, he would definitely meet him. But he kept himself in a special status and raised the police wall between him and the devotees. So Baba did not meet him.
This incident is also an important message of Baba Neem Karoli, which he wanted to give to the devotees. He believed that any third, whether it is a position or prestige between God and the devotee, should not come. Devotees who ask God with true heart, God fulfills his every wish.
