Jaipur. Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal has made important remarks on the famous concept of one nation, one election. He said that a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) has been formed on this initiative, which was sought by the opposition when he introduced the respective bill in the Lok Sabha. Meghwal clarified that he himself is part of this committee and PP Chaudhary, MP from Pali, is its chairman. Giving detailed details of JPC’s works, Meghwal said that the committee has held several meetings in Delhi. Evidence has been collected from various stakeholders during these meetings, and also a significant feedback from other states. He insisted that JPC is trying to establish that the concept of ‘one nation, one election’ is actually in the national interest.
The Union Minister also highlighted that not only the Center, but also the Rajasthan government is taking steps in the direction of ‘one nation, one election’. He said, “The Rajasthan government has taken some steps towards implementing the concept of ‘one state, one election’.” This shows that this idea is being tried locally in BJP ruled states.
The main objective of the ‘one nation, one election’ is to conduct the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections simultaneously, which saves resources, repeated code of conduct did not obstruct development work and stop double use of administrative machinery. However, many constitutional and logical questions have also been raised by the opposition on this.
JPC has been formed for this purpose so that a viable solution can be presented after considering all aspects. It is clear from Meghwal’s statement that the government is serious about this issue and is exploring the possibilities of its implementation at the ground level. The initiative of ‘one state, one election’ by the Rajasthan government is being considered a part of this big vision.
