Chandigarh Former Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda has said that once again the farmer is beating the maize in the mandis and the ruling BJP is sitting closed. Makki’s arrival in the mandis of Kurukshetra, Ambala, Karnal, Kaithal and surrounding areas is in full swing. But farmers are getting a rate of only 1000 to 1400 rupees instead of Rs 2400 per quintal MSP. The rate of a fully dried crop is also getting maximum Rs 1800. Hooda has said that since the BJP government came to power, farmers are craving for not only maize, but for the MSP of all crops including paddy, wheat. This government had also planned to abolish the MSP by bringing a law. But due to the farmer movement, he had to withdraw the law. But now the government is carrying out its plans in an indirect manner.
Bhupendra Singh Hooda said that the government constantly pressures farmers to leave paddy and cultivate maize. For this, incentive amount is also announced every year. But every time the farmers feel cheated. Neither they get incentives nor MSP. The BJP had promised before the elections that soon after coming to power, they would buy paddy at the rate of Rs 3100 per quintal. Many farmers voted for the BJP after coming under the influence. But as soon as he grabbed power, he started showing his form. What is 3100 rupees, farmers were not even given MSP.
Hooda said that due to the policies of the BJP government, farmers have to sell their crops at a lower price than the cost. For 2025-26 marketing season, wheat MSP has been fixed at Rs 2425 per quintal and paddy MSP is Rs 2300 per quintal, but these rates prove to be only paper. Because farmers are forced to sell wheat and paddy in mandis at 300 to 400 rupees low rate. Hooda has said that the BJP should ensure purchases on MSP for all crops except to trust the farmers, so that the farmers can get a fair price for their hard work.
