According to Shivpuran, once there was a dispute between Brahma ji and Vishnu ji about the superiority. Brahma ji condemned Shiva, which made Lord Shiva very angry. Bhairav was born with his anger. Bhairav cut the fifth head of Brahma Ji. However, later Shivji forgives Bhairav and appointed him as Kotwal of Kashi.

Wake up early in the morning and take a bath and wear clean yellow or white clothes.
Bath the idol or picture of Lord Bhairav with Panchamrit.
Offer black sesame, mustard oil, urad dal and coconut to Bhairav ji.
Feeding bread and milk to the dog is considered extremely auspicious, because the dog is the vehicle of Bhairav.
Chant “Om Kalabhairavay Namah” 108 times.
In the evening, recite Bhairav Chalisa and light a lamp of oil.
