Iran has opened its airspace for three aircraft in India as a special gesture. After opening the air route, an aircraft landed at Delhi Airport late on Friday night with 290 Indian students from Iran’s Mashhad. Most of the students are from Jammu and Kashmir.
The Government of India has launched ‘Operation Sindhu’ to evacuate its citizens from the western country in view of the conflict between Israel and Iran.
Two more flights are scheduled to arrive at night, one of which will come from Ashgabat in Turkmenistan around three o’clock in the night.
About 1,000 Indian citizens will return home after riding in these aircraft.
The Jammu and Kashmir Students Union said in a statement, “Heartfelt thanks to his timely intervention and support to the Government of India, Ministry of External Affairs and all concerned officials. This is a big relief for families who are eagerly waiting for their children to return.”
Iran has opened its airspace to facilitate India’s withdrawal efforts.
The students were first taken from Tehran to Mashhad and coordinated by the Iranian airline was coordinated by Indian officials.
