PAN card is an important document for every Indian. Many times the name is printed while making it. There is no need to panic in such a situation. Actually, this process can now be done online sitting at home and the correct name can be printed again in the PAN card. Online process of name improvement
1. The first go to the Income Tax Department website.
2. Click on the “Online Services” tab.
3. Under “PAN Services”, click on “PAN card rejuvenation/correction/address request”.
4. Click “Apply online”.
5. Now, enter your PAN number, date of birth and gender.
6. Click on “I am not a robot” checkbox.
7. Click “Submit”.
8. Now, you will see a new page where you have to enter the information required to improve your name. It also includes:
Your current name: This is your current name which is wrongly written on your PAN card.
Your real name: This is your real name that you want to print on your PAN card.
9. After entering all the information, click on “Submit”.
You will receive an acknowledgment number. Keep this acknowledgment number in mind because you may need it for future references. Your name change request may take 15-20 days to approve. Once your name change request is approved, you will receive a new PAN card on which your correct name will be printed. Note that if your name change request is not approved, you will receive a show cause notice. This notice will give the reason for rejecting your name change request. If you do not agree with these reasons, you can appeal to them.
How to request offline name change
If you do not want to request online name change, you can also request offline name changes. For this you have to follow these steps:
1. Download the PAN Card Reform Form from the Income Tax Department website.
2. Fill the form carefully and attach all the necessary documents.
3. Submit the form to your nearest PAN card issuing authority (PCIA) office.
4. PCIA will approve or reject your name change request within 15-20 days. Once your name change request is approved, you will receive a new PAN card on which your correct name will be printed.
Required documents
For the name change request you have to attach the following documents:
PAN Card: This is your current PAN card on which the wrong name is printed. Aadhaar Card: This is your Aadhaar card which is a proof of your real name. Marriage Certificate: If you have changed your name after marriage, then you have to attach your marriage certificate. Divorce Certificate: If you have changed your name after divorce, you have to attach your divorce certificate. Court Order: If you have legally changed your name, then you have to attach the court order.
