New Delhi, 26 June (IANS). The central government said on Thursday that the data of the Cockpit Voice Records (CVR) and Flight Data Recorder (FDR) data from the crash site of Air India’s Boeing Dreamliner 787 aircraft in Ahmedabad is being analyzed.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Civil Aviation said that all actions related to the black box so far have been done in a timely compliance of domestic laws and international obligations.
After the unfortunate accident of Air India flight AI-171, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) immediately launched an investigation and formed a multi-disciplinary team on 13 June 2025 as per the prescribed criteria.
The team, constituted according to the international protocol, is headed by the Director General of AAIB and it includes an aviation specialist, an ATC officer and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) representatives, which is the US manufacturing and design government investigating agency and required for this investigation.
Both CVR and FDR were recovered. The first of these met on June 13, 2025 from the roof of the building at the accident site and the second on 16 June 2025.
The ministry said, “Standard operation process for safe operation, storage and transport of both CVR and FDR was released. The equipment was kept under police security and CCTV supervision in Ahmedabad round the clock.”
Subsequently, on June 24, 2025, the black box was brought from Ahmedabad to Delhi by Indian Air Force aircraft with full security.
The front black box was brought to AAIB Lab in Delhi on June 24, 2025 with the Director General of AAIB. The rear black box was brought to AAIB Lab in Delhi by the second AAIB team and on June 24, 2025 at 17:15 pm.
According to the information given by the ministry, “The team along with technical members of AAIB and NTSB led by AAIB DG started the data extraction process on the evening of June 24, 2025. The crash protection module (CPM) was safely evacuated from the front black box and on 25 June 2025, it was successfully downloaded and its data was successfully downloaded.”
The ministry said, “Analysis of CVR and FDR data is going on. The purpose of these efforts is to rebuild the sequence of incidents leading to accident and identify factors contributing to increase aviation security and to prevent such incidents in future.”
More than 270 people were killed in this air crash, with 241 passengers and crew members.
