Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar on Monday bowed down the sacrifice of tribal warriors in the Santhal rebellion on ‘Hul Day’ and congratulated the people.
Hul Day is celebrated in the memory of the Santhal Rebellion against British rule in 1855-56.
The tribal Sido and Kanhu Murmu were two brothers, who led the rebellion called Santhal Hul. This rebellion took place in the Jharkhand region.
Soren said in a post on social media, “Salutations and sacrifice of the great heroes of Hul rebellion, immortal martyr Sido and Kanhu, Chand-Bhairav, Phool-Jhano and other brave martyrs. Our heroes of Hul rebellion before the freedom struggle were a tissue against the exploitation and atrocities of the Mahajans and to protect the water, forest and land against the exploitation and atrocities of Mahajans.
He said that the teachings of the brave ancestors will always inspire people for justice and self -respect.
Soren said, “Amar Veer Shaheed Sido and Kanhu be immortal! The brave martyr of Jharkhand should be immortal! Jai Jharkhand!”
Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar congratulated the tribals on the occasion of Hul Day and saluted the fighters of Santhal Rebellion.
Gangwar said in a post on the social media platform ‘X’, “His struggle against British rule will always inspire generations to fight against injustice and serve the motherland.”
This rebellion started from Bhoganadih village. The purpose of this rebellion was to raise voice against the exploitation of Santhal people by British and local landlords.
