Tamil Nadu Sivakasi Massive Blast: There was a fierce explosion in a cracker factory on Tuesday morning in Shivkashi area of Virudunagar district of Tamil Nadu. The accident is around 9:30 am. Sri Sudarshan took place at Sambarshan Fireworks Unit at Sembarapatti, which has so far confirmed those who lost their lives. One of the dead is also included, while many laborers have been badly injured, who have been admitted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
80 laborers were employed during the blast
On receiving the information of the incident, the police and fire department teams immediately reached the spot and started relief and rescue operations. It is being told that at the time when the factory exploded, about 80 laborers were working there. However, how many people were hit by the explosion, its assessment is currently underway.
According to local people, the echo of the blast was heard from several kilometers away and the black smoke rising from the factory was seen far and wide. The explosion was so strong that the glass of the surrounding buildings also broke and shattered. There is an atmosphere of fear among the people living near the factory.
90 percent of firecrackers in the country are produced from here
Shivakashi is considered to be the center of the cracker industry, where about 90 percent of the country’s firecrackers are produced. This is the reason why the region is also known as the ‘capital of firecrackers’. Hundreds of cracker factories and units work in Shivkashi, in which a large number of local laborers get employment. Reasons behind the explosion
At this time the authorities have sealed the scene and the cause of the accident is being investigated. Prima facie it is believed that the factory may have exploded from the spark during a chemical process, but it can be confirmed only after the investigation report.
Let me tell you, the state government has announced to give compensation to the families of the deceased and to bear the entire expenses for the treatment of the injured. The administration has also issued orders to all cracker units to follow safety standards.
