Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday questioned the special intensive revision (SIR) exercise being conducted by the Election Commission of India before the upcoming Bihar assembly elections and claimed that the election body had “lost control” on its works.
Attacking those who looted Bihar, he said that his time to rob the state is ending and hence they want to remove the names of the poor from the voter list to remain in power.
Tejashwi, Leader of Opposition in Bihar Legislative Assembly, said at a press conference here, “When we started questioning the issue of clarity, has the Election Commission held a press conference … It seems that the Election Commission has lost control … People are afraid here that if we do nothing then we will go away … How will the time of looting Bihar be finished with the retired (government) officials … Now they will be expanded? The names of the voter have been removed from the list. “
He claimed that a campaign filled with “confusion, uncertainty and oppressive attitude” is being carried out in the name of special intensive revision of the voter list. He criticized the changes being made by the Election Commission continuously in its guidelines, while the opposition had earlier held a press conference and questioned the decision of the Commission.
Tejashwi said, “We are seeing that a campaign is being launched in Bihar in the name of special intensive voter list revision 2025, which is full of complete confusion, uncertainty and oppressive attitude.” He said, “Since our press conference on June 27, the Election Commission has made several changes in the directions during this special intensive voter list revision campaign – sometimes the requirement of the qualifications during this special intensive voter list revision campaign Changes in the nature of documents, and ever amend the deadline of the process. “
Earlier, Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said that the main objective of this initiative is to stop any “vague” voter and ensure that no person is deprived of the voter list.
In his statement, the Chief Election Commissioner said that one lakh volunteers have also been deployed to help the elderly, sick, disabled and marginalized groups to fill the calculation form.
The purpose of SIR is to ensure that no eligible voter is missed and at the same time no ineligible voter is included in the voter list. Dnyanesh Kumar said in his statement, “More than one lakh volunteers have also been deployed to help the elderly, sick, disabled persons (PWD) and marginalized groups to fill their calculation forms.”
Meanwhile, sources in the Election Commission said that the meeting to be held on Wednesday with a multi -party delegation regarding the special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar has been postponed due to ‘lack of confirmation’ from the participated political parties.
He said that the meeting was originally scheduled at 5 pm on July 2. Sources in the Election Commission said on Tuesday that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) had requested a meeting via email on June 30, claiming to be representing several political parties in the matter.
Following the standard process, the Commission contacted the concerned political parties to confirm participation in the proposed meeting. However, no confirmation has been received from any party till 1 July, ECI sources said. Behar assembly elections are scheduled to be held later this year.
