Nine people are still missing in the explosion at Sigachi Industries’s pharma plant in Pashmalaram, Telangana, killing at least 38 people and injured 35. Efforts are on to locate them. District Superintendent of Police (SP) Paritosh Pankaj gave this information on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the State Government -appointed expert committee is expected to visit the spot on Thursday to find out the causes of the explosion and establish the order of developments.
The panel should submit a detailed report to the government with specific suggestions and recommendations within a month. The committee was led by Dr. B.B. Venkateswara Rao will do.
A senior district official said that some of the injured who are undergoing treatment in various hospitals will be discharged today.
SP Pankaj told PTI-language, “The number of dead remains 38. Nine people are missing. But perhaps today or tomorrow, when we get a report of bones and other things from FSL (Forensic Science Lab), things will be clear.”
He said that 90 percent of the work of removing debris has been completed and now there is no possibility of any body coming to the surface.
However, he said that some human remains may come to the surface and they will be sent for investigation when they come out.
Sigachi Managing Director and CEO Amit Raj Sinha on Wednesday denied the allegations that the company used the old machinery. He said that the facility is old, but the machinery is not old.
Sinha dismissed the possibility of reactor explosion at the plant, saying that this havoc in the dryer section would have caused havoc.
