Kangana Ranaut, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and actor -turned -leader from Mandi, on Friday expressed grief over the huge devastation caused by floods in her home state of Himachal Pradesh.
In a post on social media, Ranaut said that Jairam Thakur has advised him to stop visiting flood affected areas. Earlier on Friday, many houses were damaged and vehicles were washed away due to cloudburst and heavy rains in the last 24 hours in the state.
A local person whose house has been damaged after cloudburst, said, “Everything was swept away after cloudburst. We are staying at our relatives’ house.”
In Himachal Pradesh, at least 37 people died and assets worth Rs 400 crore were lost due to disruptions due to torrential rains in Himachal Pradesh, according to the State Disaster Management Authority.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of rain in the state till 7 July. According to Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority and Revenue Department, the state has lost more than Rs 400 crore due to continuous monsoon rains. Search, rescue and relief operations continue, especially in the most affected Mandi district, where many roads are blocked and essential services are interrupted.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, State Disaster Management Authority and Special Secretary of Revenue Department, DC Rana said, “We have so far recorded a loss of more than Rs 400 crore, as recorded in our system. But the actual loss is likely to be much more than that.”
He said, “Our primary attention is currently on search, rescue and restoration. Detailed damage assessment will take time.” The most affected area is the Thunag sub -division of the mandi, where large -scale restoration efforts are on.
